Emotional & Spiritual Care

Patients coping with advanced illnesses or those facing the end of life can experience many emotions during their journey. While in hospice care, it is common for patients to experience anger, guilt, anxiety, loneliness, sadness, hopelessness, and more. Our goal at Dignity is to provide treatments for the whole patient. Beyond medical care, we give equal support for both spiritual and emotional needs, ensuring that we treat every aspect of the patient's wellness during hospice.

Caring for the Mind & the Body

Emotional and spiritual care provides treatment relating to the patient's thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Recognizing, addressing, and treating pain and suffering during hospice care is an essential task for many reasons. Any emotional distress left unattended can affect physical health and reduce the quality of life. In addition, those who are struggling with emotional health often struggle to meet their goals of care. At Dignity, we recognize that emotional and spiritual health plays an essential role in general well-being and aim to treat those needs just as much as physical needs. Because the mind and body are connected, this provides treatment for the patient as a whole.

Family & Caregiver Support

Unfortunately, it is common for families and caregivers to become overwhelmed while a loved one is in hospice. A loved one on hospice support can worry about every aspect of their life, like ensuring that their personal affairs are tended to. We can be the extra pair of hands that your family needs to provide emotional care for your loved one so you can arrange their other needs or simply have a break.

We also provide the same emotional care and support to family and caregivers as we do to the patient, because hospice is a difficult experience for those in support roles as well. We act as a sounding board and trusted confidant for grieving family members, connecting close loved ones to our counselors and chaplains for extra spiritual or mental support.
