One of the many benefits of hospice care is integrated medication delivery and management. Medications are often a key part of the hospice care plan. Our Utah hospice doctors, nurses, and support staff simplifies how your loved one receives medications to better support comfort and quality of life during this final journey.
Medication Services We Can Offer
From prescriptions to administration, we offer seamless medication delivery and management services for hospice patients. Here’s how our doctors and nurses work together to provide efficient, effective medication support:
Hospice Doctors
Our doctors prescribe medications based on your loved one’s specific condition and needs. With Dignity's team providing your loved one’s hospice care, there’s no need to seek prescriptions through their other physicians. This means medications can be prescribed and administered in just hours, for care that adjusts to their needs quickly.
Hospice Nurses
Our nurses offer prescription delivery from the local pharmacy to wherever they call home (as well as other medications the patient may have). Our nurses are able to administer medications — including IVs or injections — or advise caregivers on how to administer medication. Our nurses also fill pill planners and plan ahead for weekly medication schedules. They then continually update and inform our hospice doctors about your loved one’s status, describe any changes in physical or mental condition, and notate other key indicators of health. This constant communication helps us keep care plans flexible, so we can quickly adapt as your loved one’s condition changes.
Supporting Existing Medication Plans Throughout Hospice Care
One of the biggest fears many caregivers and patients have about hospice is that their current care plan — including the medications they currently take — won’t be allowed to continue during hospice. At Dignity, we never ask you to cease taking medication simply because you’re transitioning to hospice care. Our care plan is designed to work with your current medication or medical equipment needs, rather than against them. We make sure we’re providing support that goes above and beyond your current care plan, rather than replacing it.
You should know that, at Dignity, our hospice approach is to let you drive the care. We simply aim to be a knowledgeable support system that helps facilitate your wishes. We always want you to feel comfortable about the journey your loved one is on during hospice.
